
Ken Honda has 31 years of marketing and business development experience in the ICT industry. Based in Tokyo, Japan, he has developed in his country new businesses and expanded sales of foreign software and services companies as an executive of major vendors and an independent consultant.
Ken founded KenConsulting Inc. in January 2002 and clients have included NTT, NEC and NJK. Before setting up independently, he was the General Manager of Strategic Marketing with Logica Japan’s Mobile Networks division, where he led the introduction of new messaging products to Japanese mobile operators DoCoMo, Softbank Mobile (then J-Phone) and KDDI.
Prior to this, Ken promoted the Carriers Programme at Lotus Development, a subsidiary of IBM Japan, where he supported the ASP and Hosting business, selling server products to NTT, KDDI (then KDD) and other major ISPs. He also consulted NTT-ME (a NTT group company) for their new business development.
In the early nineties, Ken was the Marketing Manager of Nortel Networks (then Northern Telecom Japan). He played a central role in developing the market for digital telephone switches in NTT, achieving sales of five million subscriber lines, launching a promotional initiative for new product introduction. As the company’s Bid Manager for a Directory Assistance System to NTT, presenting the Network Automatic Call Distribution System (NACD) with DMS-100 switches, he took the initiative to offer also a Customer Support System.
From the mid seventies to late eighties, Ken held various responsibilities at the Japanese subsidiary of Control Data Corporation, the then world’s largest time sharing services provider and only super-scale computer vendor. As Communication Manager, one of his responsibilities was to handle every communication-related issue in Japan, another was to provide system consultancy services to clients of Call/370, a Decision Making Support System service for tier-1 companies in Japan. Also, Ken was in charge of marketing a big Numerical Control software system, a joint study with Mitsubishi Heavy Industry developed in Germany. As a top software engineer, Ken trained engineers from Fujitsu, Hitachi and other partners.
Ken’s excellence in developing businesses from scratch would typically include product/service study, identification of business opportunities, design of strategy and tactics, and their implementation. Where required, Ken coordinates all resources for the successful creation of a new business in the complex Japanese situation.
Ken holds a BA in Sciences and further graduated at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University (NC, USA). He speaks fluent English and Japanese.
