
John D. Van Fleet has years of ICT industry experience in Asia, with hardware and software equipment vendors and mobile operators. Based in Shanghai for the past seven years after one in Taipei and ten in Tokyo, John has worked with Alcatel Asia-Pacific, Motorola China, AOL Japan, and Chunghwa Telecom (Taiwan).
He has acquired extensive experience throughout the Asian region in business development and leadership, with a focus on marketing, spending five years with General Electric Asia Pacific as a marketing leader and then leading two marketing consultancies in Greater China. John has also been involved in academic leadership, during a three-year spell as the founding director of an executive MBA program based in Shanghai.
Currently John focuses on marketing strategy and management support for his clients, which include a Western mobile application technology company and a Japanese network solutions provider. He is also the Managing Director of 'the NNA China Report', and Managing Editor of 'Direct Marketing China'
Additionally, John is senior advisor and adjunct faculty for the Antai College of Economics and Management, Shanghai Jiaotong University, one of the oldest and most influential (top five) universities in the country. He also serves on the board of the Shanghai Foreign Correspondents Club and the University of Southern California's Shanghai Alumni Association.
Author of numerous articles for business and other publications, John is a regular speker in China and a founder of the China Direct Marketing Association.
His most valued skills are marketing strategy and implementation, integration of marketing into comprehensive business imperatives, and communications strategies and implementation (PR, corporate, internal).
John holds both undergraduate (literature) and MBA degrees from the University of Southern California. A native English speaker, he is fluent in Japanese and speaks basic Mandarin.
